Jonny Gomes went down to Mexico City to start the party for FTX MLB Home Run Derby X and he went big, just like when he crushed balls back in the day.
The former slugger, representing the Boston Red Sox in this year’s tournament, was in town to help celebrate the announcement that Campo Marte will serve as the host for the final leg of the tour on Oct. 15. After the announcement, Gomes visited iconic landmarks and went deep into tacos. He tried pastor, ribs and shrimp, but suadero tacos conquered Jonny’s heart and belly.
“All the tacos were unbelievable. So good. There are two that stood out,” Gomes said. “The Suadero tacos were unbelievable — never even had it before. I have eaten millions of tacos on my life but never something like that. And pastor, I ate that before but never with cheese. That was something great,”
With his stomach full, Gomes will now prepare for the first event in London on July 9 before heading to Seoul and Mexico City to finish the tour. He’ll certainly look for some tacos to help power his home runs at Campo Marte this fall.
“I think Mexico City it’s going to be something special with all the food, and drinks and music. For sure Home Run Derby X it’s going to be a fiesta,” he said.
