LAS CRUCES – Horse N Hound Feed N Supply announced the end of its 40 years in business earlier this month. It’s building location on Motel Boulevard is now home to New Mexico Hay and Livestock Company.
The local company, a farm and ranch operation in business for about 20 years, specializes in brokering hay, alfalfa and other forage products across the country. The owner, Jeff Flores, is a fourth-generation farmer from Hatch. Their headquarters is along Doña Ana Road.
“With respect to this area, what I’m wanting to do is I’ve always wanted to create a hay and forage outlet, if you will, to where I can have a wide variety of hay and forage products for folks,” Flores said. “From cattle and horse quality to goats and sheep, so the full gamut, and more variety for our local folks.”
Flores said the company acquired the former Horse N Hound location May 1 and have been operating from the building since the Horse N Hound closed May 14, though talks have been in the works since January.
Flores described the current operation as a soft opening before its planned grand opening in early July where he will showcase the business to the community. Before then, he said he is working on partnering with other vendors so the business can offer a wider range of feed and grain as well as dog food, cat food and other “traditional front products that were sold in the feed store.”
Customers who go to the store now will find hay and forage products, including alfalfa, beardless wheat and sudangrass. People can also place orders.
Flores also said he has kept the employees previously working under the Horse N Hound and hopes to train them specifically as team members for his company.
People can follow NM Hay and Livestock’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/newmexicohay for updates. The storefront is at 208 N. Motel Blvd.
