Buffalo mayor Byron Brown gave an update Thursday on the Buffalo mass shooting at Tops Supermarket, alongside FBI and law enforcement officials.
Brown said that the FBI has finished collecting evidence and that the store will aim to reopen to the public as soon as possible.
U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York Trini E. Ross also participated in the press conference and said that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has told her he is following the developments of the investigation.
The FBI is investigating the incident as a racially-motivated hate crime. The 18-year-old suspect is a white male who was heavily armed and had driven to the city with the intent of targeting Black residents, posting a manifesto about his plan, and live streaming the assault.
