With the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting a new estimate of nearly 15 million deaths from COVID-19 and causes related to the virus, one of the hardest-hit countries is the U.S., where nearly one million people have died.
Families are still grieving the loss of loved ones, but there are still groups unmoved by the risks that have scoffed at precautions and vaccines.
As Jackson Proskow reports, some scientists are left questioning the influence politics has had, even as many try to cope with the losses they’ve suffered at the hands of the virus.
