Internet Marketing Blog: Content part 2
In part one of this article we discussed not recreating the wheel and saving time by reviewing the articles written by those in your field of interest and this would provide you with internet marketing blog content. This is something many professional writers do, it saves time in researching what your market is interested in. To be clear we are not talking about plagiarizing since there is not a writer alive (that I know of) that wants someone else to claim credit for work that they’ve done and not get paid for it. So don’t use others material.
In this article we are going to take it a bit further and I will teach you how to get content that is fresh and laser targeted to your niche and your subscribers. They will wait on pins and needles just to hear what you have to say, and it is so simple.
This one technique is used by million dollar companies, large business, attorneys, and smart network marketers, internet marketers, and anyone else who is successfully engaging their customers online. If you want to be successful at bringing more customers to your door whether it is on the web or to your brick and mortar business you really need to implement this technique.
Are you ready for it?… Well, here it is… Simply Ask them. That’s not so hard is it? No, it’s actually easy. Who knows your customers or in this case your subscribers better than your subscribers?
If you don’t know what your subscribers want, how can you supply it to them? How do these companies ask their customers what they want? They do it in a way that many of us know about but we’ve personally not noticed or taken part in. We’ve heard about these programs but many are too skeptical to believe they really exists, that people really do it. Many companies such as Lowes, Burger King, Dion’s Pizza and many more have a program that they don’t talk about and those involved keep it quiet. They are secret shopper programs. You’ve heard of it but how many of you know who those shoppers are? They use these shoppers to go into their stores and restaurants and basically tell the corporate offices what they want.
My wife and I have been part of several, and yes they actually pay you to do this. It’s not much (not enough to make a living off of) but for a free meal or lunch just to tell them what you like is not bad.
One that I belonged to was a pizza and sandwich chain in New Mexico, I can’t tell you the name because I’m still sworn to secrecy. I looked forward to once every two weeks walking into a different store with my trench coat on and my 007 sun glasses, and sliding over to the counter where my wife and I ordered our free lunch or dinner. All we had to do was eat our meal and send them a survey card of what we liked, what we thought that needed to be different, and what we would want to see on their menu. Don’t get me wrong we weren’t the only ones involved, our choices were weighed against the other secret shoppers and if enough had the same concerns the pizza and sandwich shop would make the change.
The company valued our opinion so much that on their fiftieth anniversary they gave a big catered event, invitation only, that we were invited to along with all the companies officers and employees. They rented carnival equipment and hired professional singers and entertainers for us, and had some really good food. This was one of those events that as you walk in the door you’re handed a swag bag full of stuff. If you’ve never been to an event that gives you a swag bag like it’s a Hollywood red carpet event, let me tell you it makes you feel important. There had to be hundreds of people there and none of us knew who the other secret shoppers where. It was a real blast. You see, they understood the importance of asking their customers what they wanted, and they rewarded us for telling them. I can tell you first hand they are a very successful company.
Would you believe me if I told you even lawyers and law firms, ask their customers what they want? Well, they do. I was invited to a think tank (paid of course) were a law firm was faced with a very serious case. Again I can’t get into details because I was sworn to secrecy, but to give you an Idea, a single engine plane crashed killing the pilot and his passengers. After hearing all the evidence the law firm wanted to know who we thought was liable, the pilot or the plane manufacturer or the maintenance crew. It was really a sad case but it opened my eyes to see that even attorneys want to know what they should say and do to win. It helps them to present a winning case for their client.
When you watched the news this evening, did you know that the reporter that you like was hand picked by a trial audience before he was given the job? Its true it is common practice for major news companies to get a focus group together to pick out the reporter who they think is the most trustworthy, honest, reliable and easiest to listen to. Yep, my wife sat in on one of those.
Its amazing if you really think about it, the decisions we think we make, are not our own but were made by a group of our peers, and given to us, and we are made to believe that these companies just happen to have what we like and just happened to know what we want.
That’s power, to present a product to market that 70% of the people liked before a single item was ever sold. So why not do that yourself take the advice of these large companies. Find out what your customer wants and supply it to them.
Where To Get Content for your Internet Marketing Blog that is Laser Targeted
So where do you get this content? That’s the best part of all, the internet has never made it easier to connect with your blog subscribers. The typical internet marketing blogger has all his subscribers emails or is connected to them on Facebook, or Twitter or all of the above. This list is the most valuable resource that any internet marketing blogger has. With it, in mere moments he can survey all of his subscribers, asking them questions and creating activity on his or hers social media site and at the same time find out what his or her subscribers want to hear about.
If you have this resource I would strongly suggest tapping into it, and utilize the list that you have already built.
If you don’t have a list of subscribers to your social media sites yet, or to your blog (we will discuss that in the future, How to build traffic to your blog or social media sites) but for the sake of this article, if you don’t have this already, all is not lost, you just have more leg work to do.
Whatever you are interested in you can rest assured that there is a bulletin forum about it on the web. If you were to search the internet right now under your field of interest you would find a forum talking about that particular subject. Those boards contain your future subscribers. Go to them, read the threads and whenever you see someone with a question, search it out on the internet and find them the answer for them. Yes, they can do this for themselves but you would be surprised at how many don’t do it, but instead wait for someone else to feed them the answer.
While getting the answers for them and posting it on that particular forum, you should also leave them a way to find you, by posting a link to your website, and information on who you are if it is permissible. By answering their questions and leaving behind your information and your web address you are leaving them clues on how to find you, and if they like your answer they may join your blog. You should do this on any forum you can find, keep track of the questions being asked and how many times the same questions are coming up. When you notice several of the same questions popping up repeatedly on different forums there you have what you need to write about. A proven topic that you know that your target market would be interested in. With that information you will create a laser targeted article full of fresh original content.
So to sum up the ways you can get fresh original content for your internet marketing blog:
#1 your own list, from either Facebook, Twitter, your email list, or any other social media site you have subscribers to. Ask them survey questions, engage them and see what they want. For instance, what is your biggest challenge with online marketing? What is your biggest success with Network Marketing and how are you recruiting online? Those would be ideal question from me since I am a Network Marketer. Question like those will help you focus on what your subscribers want to know.
# 2 By searching online resources such as forums, yahoo answers and the like to see what question are being asked there, and getting practice going out and finding them the answer.
