Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday said that Canada would continue to back Ukraine “wholeheartedly” amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and both the European Union and Canada were “united” in standing up for democracy.
He made the comments alongside European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen ahead of meetings with NATO and the EU.
Trudeau said there was also more involving climate change and clean energy that had to be discussed, as well as ways that Canada can help to replace Russian gas in the short-term. Von Der Leyen also said meetings would be ongoing between Canadian and EU officials to “further discuss potential Canadian energy supply to Europe.”
