United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged Moscow and Ukraine to negotiate an end to the war Tuesday, as Russia’s invasion neared the one-month mark.
“There is enough on the table to cease hostilities now and seriously negotiate now,” he said.
“This war is unwinnable: sooner or later it will have move from the battlefield to the peace table and that is inevitable.”
Guterres’ comments come one day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it would not be possible to negotiate an end to the war in his country without meeting Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
Zelenskyy has sought a meeting with Putin for nearly a year, but the Russian president has refused and instead demanded the Ukrainian president resolve his country’s “civil war” with separatist leaders linked to Moscow.
