NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh told reporters on Tuesday that even though his party has agreed to a tentative governance deal with Justin Trudeau’s Liberals until 2025, his party will continue to hold the Liberals “to account.” Some priorities as part of the deal that Singh outlined include dental care, housing and climate change.
This deal would keep Liberals in power through 2025.
A major immediate priority for the NDP is its proposed dental care program for low-income Canadians for families with an annual income of less than $90,000. Under the deal, the government would start the program this year for children under 12, then expand next year to those under 18, seniors and people living with a disability. Full implementation of this dental program is planned by 2025.
Trudeau said Tuesday that both parties have identified “key policy areas” where they share similar objectives, adding that the agreement is “not about compromising our core beliefs.”
He added that both parties would continue to work with other parties in the House.
