NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg spoke to the media after a defence minister’s meeting on Wednesday.
Stoltenberg said the alliance stands ready to respond to further Russian actions, having requested NATO commanders develop response plans for any theatre of war: land, sea, air, economic, or cyber.
Stoltenberg said alliance member nations had already pledged to send large amounts of troops to guard NATO’s eastern flank, with these troops coming “from both sides of Atlantic Ocean.”
Stoltenberg said that as of this moment 100,000 U.S. military personnel in Europe are on high alert, as are 40,000 troops in Eastern Europe who are under the direct command of NATO.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has signalled its solidarity with Ukraine in the form of supplies, weapons, and sanctions since the early days of Russia’s latest incursion into its territory, but has not deployed troops for combat.
