Speaking in Brantford, Ont. on Wednesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford discussed the upcoming announcement from Ontario’s top doctor, Dr. Kieran Moore, that mask mandates in many indoor public settings will be lifted on March 21.
Ford said he believes his government has been the “most cautious” government when it comes to COVID-19 “in North America” but said he supports ending mask mandates if the science supports it.
Ford also stated he believes mask use should be a personal choice for Ontario residents.
The Ontario government announced Wednesday that masks will no longer be required in most social settings such as restaurants, gyms, large event spaces and even in schools.
However, the mask mandate will remain in place for higher-risk settings such as transit, long-term care, retirement homes, hospitals, shelters, jails and congregate care and living settings.
