Sony is bringing out two new Walkman music players, for nostalgic audiophiles with (lots of) cash to burn.
The NW-WM1ZM2 and the NW-WM1AM2 are priced at £1,212 and an eye-watering £2,425, respectively.
In 2010 Sony announced that it would no long be manufacturing its iconic Walkman that revolutionised the portability of music.
Both music players feature Wi-Fi capability for downloading and streaming and can read Mp3 files and files in high definition, lossless formats like Flac or Apple Lossless.
The NW-WM1ZM2 comes fully encased in a gold-plated oxygen-free copper chassis and and weighs 455g.
Widely used in instrument manufacturing, the copper lends the player its unique natural, acoustic sound.
The more ‘affordable’ NW-WM1AM2 features an aluminium alloy frame with a highly rigid case that’s resistive to electrical noise and other interference for stable, high quality sound.
If you haven’t fully gotten in on the switch to wireless headphones yet, both devices use the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Both players also have a 5-inch, customisable touchscreen displaying and offer 128 and 256 GB of storage, respectively.
The devices also have expandable memory with slots for Micro SDs so you never run out of space for your music library.
The new Walkmans have also been designed with sustainability in mind and no plastic is used in the packaging material. But the devices are still old-school missing features like noise cancellation and being waterproof.
The new Walkmen will be available in select countries in Asia starting in April.
