Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, alongside British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte, held a news conference on Monday morning in London, U.K. to strategize on the response of NATO countries to the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war.
Trudeau announced Monday that Canada was adding 10 new Russian individuals to its sanctions list who are “complicit” in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “This includes former and current senior government officials, oligarchs, and supporters of Russian leadership. The names these individuals come from a list compiled by jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny,” Trudeau said.
Trudeau said he was happy to be attending the trilateral meeting at 10 Downing Street in London to support the Ukrainian people and to “hold Russia to account and stand up for democracy around the world.”
“We want to stand with the Ukrainian people and push back hard against Russia,” he said, adding he “wants to talk about countering misinformation and upholding the principles and values that they share.”
Canada, Britain and the Netherlands will also work together to form what’s being called an International Ukraine Support Group. The group would co-ordinate the efforts of the international community to provide long-term support to Ukraine.
