Landsharks, meet whale sharks.
Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville has opened its second resort in Mexico, this time on the tiny island of Holbox at the edge of the Caribbean Sea.
It’s called the Margaritaville St Somewhere Punta Coco, Holbox Island, and it’s the first St Somewhere-branded resort for the company.
The property is the result of the ongoing alliance between Margaritaville and Karisma Hotels and Resorts, one that has already yielded two other resorts in the Caribbean: Margaritaville Island Reserve-branded resorts in Cap Cana and the Riviera Maya, respectively.
St Somewhere is a different kind of resort: it’s not all-inclusive, and it’s all about a boutique, intimate experience, and a major new addition to Holbox, which is located at the northeastern tip of the Yucatan peninsula, just where the Caribbean Sea meets the Gulf of Mexico — one of the region’s great whale shark watching destinations.
Indeed, there are just 39 suites, set over mangrove gardens and wooden bridges, with six different room types: including swim-up suites.
Amenities include a pair of open-air eateries and one bar; that includes The Sandbar & Pan American Grill and The Harbour House Peninsular Cuisine & Wood Stove Bar.
There’s a swim-up bar called the Lone Palm, which includes in-pool and poolside drinks.
“We are thrilled to welcome our first guests to Margaritaville St. Somewhere Punta Coco, on the up-and-coming Holbox Island, for a one-of-a-kind experience designed to evoke escapism for the intrepid traveler,” said Beat Müller, Senior Director of Operations at Margaritaville St. Somewhere Punta Coco, Holbox Island. “Guests are immediately immersed in the island’s lush setting from the moment they arrive at Margaritaville St. Somewhere.”
“Holbox Island is a beautiful, remote destination, complete with adventure and wonder,” Müller said. “The once-in-a-lifetime experiences that the island offers are truly spectacular, whether it’s swimming among the whale sharks to kayaking in the bioluminescent waters.”
