As compact pickups continue to build hype in the United States and Canada, Ram Mexico has announced its lineup for its subcompact 2022 Ram 700 pickup for the Mexican market. The Ram 700, which is based on the highly-successful Brazilian-built Fiat Strada, offers the most capable, versatile, safe, technologically advanced in its class.
The second-generation Ram 700 uses the MMP (or Modular Platform Pickup) platform which is more rigid and lighter than its predecessor and is offered in two flexible cab offerings (Single Cab or Crew Cab).
With four different models available (SLT Single Cab, SLT Crew Cab, Big Horn Crew Cab, and Laramie Crew Cab), the Mexican market 2022 Ram 700 has the capacity to carry up to five passengers and best-in-class cargo capacity. The 2022 Ram 700 is focused on satisfying both the needs of the industrial, construction, and commercial sectors of the Mexican market as it becomes an ideal tool for anyone who is looking to work hard or play hard.
Under the hood of the Ram 700 is the 1.3-liter FIREFLY inline-four-cylinder engine producing 100 horsepower and 99 lb.-ft. of torque in the Mexican market. It has been electronically calibrated to deliver torque at low revs, favoring the performance of the engine in both fuel efficiency and emissions. The 1.3-liter is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, which features a “Gear Shift Indicator” system optimizing engine performance by notifying the driver on the instrument panel of the optimal moment to shift up or down.
Ram 700 models offer front-wheel-drive across the lineup, providing immediate coupling of the drive wheels to the powertrain favoring the 1.3-liter FIREFLY inline-four-cylinder engine’s performance and optimum fuel consumption due to the reduction of weight by mechanical components and better-using energy by not requiring its transfer to a great number of separate components of the differential. The front-wheel-drive system also offers a more rapid response in acceleration and traction when driving on surfaces like sand, gravel, or icy pavement.
On the exterior, the 2022 Ram 700 features a honeycomb front grille with similar styling to the rugged 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel.
Ram has also integrated a front LED lighting system for the first time on the Ram 700. The lights produce a lower heat intensity, as well as a better quality of exterior light with a greater luminous intensity that improves visibility for the driver in the darkest conditions on the top-tier Laramie models. Other models get standard halogen headlights with blacked finished lenses.
Through the MPP platform, it was also possible to house a new front and rear suspension thinking about improving the vehicle’s comfort and handling. There are new springs, shock absorbers, and geometry, as well as a new suspension crossbar and stabilizer bar at the front, and a new rear axle. The Ram 700 also features a higher ground clearance of 8.4-inches and even better approach and departure angles with up to 24º on entry and up to 28º on exit, which is best-in-class.
In addition, the positioning of the rear suspension allowed for a greater load width in the bucket. This means that the Regular Cab models can hold 1,354-liters (or 47.8 cubic feet) of volume, while Crew Cab models can hold 844-liters (or 29.8 cubic feet). The load capacity also goes further and ranges from 650 kg (or 1,433 lbs) in the five occupant version to up to 720 kg (or 1,587 lbs) in the entry-level configuration. That is more load capacity than most of the models of the last-generation Dodge Dakota.

Front and rear seats both feature height adjustable headrests, while the second row is designed for ergonomics and safety of three passengers. The only other change between the Regular Cab and Crew Cab is the addition of two more stereo speakers for the rear doors.
2022 Ram 700 Big Horn Crew Cab –
In the middle of the lineup is the Big Horn trim, representing the perfect balance between capabilities and comfort. The Big Horn trim is only available in the five-passenger Crew Cab configuration. 2022 Ram 700 Laramie Crew Cab –
The 2022 Ram 700 Laramie is the benchmark in luxury and technology in the compact pickup segment. Its exterior combines refinement and sportiness with LED headlamps and daytime running light (DRL), body-colored side mirrors with turn signal indicator, body-colored front fascia, body-colored door handles, crankcase protection plate motor, the front bezel on the front fascia, roof sidebars, grab bar extensions, tarpaulin tonneau cover, halogen fog lamps, 15-inch aluminum wheels, and ParkSense rear backup sensors. Laramie models are only available in the Crew Cab configuration.
While most of the interior of the Laramie is a carryover from the Big Horn, the Laramie sets itself apart with a leather interior and leather-wrapped steering wheel in a gray tone made from high-quality leather materials with fabric inserts.
As for pricing, the compact 2021 Ram 700 SLT Regular Cab has a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $269,900 MXN (or about $13,231.85 USD). For those looking at the more luxurious Laramie Crew Cab models, it will set you back $366,900 MXN (or about $17,965.94 USD).
The Ram 700 is best described as the modern-day Dodge Rampage but with the twist of a four-door option. For those hoping that the Ram 700 will make it to the United States or Canada, it is very doubtful. Currently, the Ram 700 is designed for LATAM countries and currently does not meet safety requirements for both the American and Canadian markets.
