Ottawa police and other law enforcement began taking action against protesters that continue to demonstrate around Parliament Hill on Friday morning, with the House of Commons having cancelled their Friday sitting due to the police operation.
The operation by law enforcement and tactical teams from multiple jurisdictions was largely peaceful during the day, though police were equipped with tear gas and a range of other law enforcement tools in their bid to remove the encampment. Police say 70 people are now in custody, including Pat King, a prominent organizer with the demonstrations.
Mounted units were also on scene.
It comes a day after at least two of the top organizers for the so-called “Freedom Convoy” blockades were arrested, in addition to other people being taken into custody.
