As more arrests are made and investigations ramp up, Ottawa City Police say the are determined to get rid of protesters who refuse to leave the nation’s capital. Ottawa police say they’ve made 22 arrests and issued more than 1,300 tickets.
There are also dozens of ongoing criminal investigations, including one following the alleged attack of an officer. “We absolutely have a need to end this,” said Deputy Chief Steve Bell. “We are actively working to do that through peaceful, but we’ve also looked at enforcement actions to do this.”
In addition, police intelligence has gathered that 25 per cent of the 418 truckers encamped in Ottawa have children living in them. Police are working with the children’s aid society to ensure their welfare and safety.
But as Ross Lord reports, the lingering defiance of demonstrators and their numbers still present logistical issues.
