Former U.S. vice-president Mike Pence spoke Friday on false claims that he could overturn the 2020 U.S. presidential election when he oversaw the counting of electoral college votes on Jan. 6 before Congress, saying it was something he had “no right” to do.
“I heard this week that President Trump said I had the right to overturn the election. President Trump is wrong,” he told those gathered at a Federalist Society gathering in Orlando, Fla.
Pence also said just as he had no right to change the outcome of the election, he suggested Vice-President Kamala Harris would also have no right “when we (Republicans) beat them in [2024].”
The former vice-president also spoke about the Jan. 6 riot that saw supporters of Trump enter the Capitol building, which has since resulted in numerous charges laid against those involved that day. He said it was a “dark day in history,” and thanked Capitol Police and federal law enforcement for their “courageous action.”
