SINALOA cartel leader ‘El Cano’ has been arrested in a chicken shop after a brutal firefight left two dead.
The dramatic arrest of Alan Ervey Juárez Castillo or ‘El Cano’, took place in Guadalupe, Mexico on Tuesday.
The alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in Nuevo León was captured after a shootout with the police led to two people being killed, ABC Noticias reported.
Seven people, including El Cano, have been detained.
According to the outlet the 35-year-old had an arrest warrant for aggravated kidnapping.
Footage shows police cars pursuing civilian vehicles in Nuevo León.
Police who reportedly had outstanding arrest warrants for kidnapping and aggravated homicide arrested El Cano when he was having dinner with his family at a restaurant in Colonia Valle Soleado, in Guadalupe, according to El Norte.
The arrest of the man also known as “Comandante Cano” and “Don Cano” has been confirmed by the Center for Comprehensive Coordination, Control, Command, Communications and Computing of the State of Nuevo León, Then24 reported.
Back in December the Secretary of Public Security, Aldo Fasci, revealed that five organized crime groups operate in Nuevo León, Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel, Northeast Cartel, Gulf Cartel, Sinaloa Cartel and the Beltrán Leyva Cartel.
He said: “The Jalisco Cartel has a very clear fight against the Sinaloa Cartel and against other groups, so since there is a threat that Jalisco will enter Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, the other big cartels have set up camp in certain rural areas.
“And one of them that sells to the locals and that had a presence here, which is basically Sinaloa, is taking advantage of it… so we have to confirm whether that is true or not because what we want to avoid is a war here.”
The Sinaloa Cartel is an infamous drug trafficking and crime group that began in the late 1980s.
It is one of the most powerful drug trafficking organizations in Mexico, previously led by notorious Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman who was jailed for life in 2019.
Guzman was a “principal leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, a Mexico-based international drug trafficking organisation responsible for importing and distributing more than a million kilograms of cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine and heroin in the US,” according to the US Office of Public Affairs.
