Alberta is changing the eligibility for COVID-19 PCR tests due to rising demand.
The province’s chief medical officer, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, made the announcement on Monday saying the new requirements will focus on those who need them the most.
According to a government press release “PCR testing eligibility will now be focused on those who have clinical risk factors for severe outcomes and those who live and work in high-risk settings.”
Dr. Hinshaw is reminding all Albertans who have COVID-19 symptoms should assume they have COVID-19 and are legally required to self-isolate.
Symptoms include runny nose, cough, fever, sore throat or loss of sense of smell or taste.
